Marriage Application Requirement Nevada: Get Copy Of Birth Certificate

To complete the application for a marriage license, a couple must:

  • NRS 122.040 (2): Before issuing a marriage license, the Clerk shall require each applicant to provide proof of the applicant’s name and age.

  • NRS 122.050: The Marriage License must contain the name of each applicant as shown in the documents presented to prove name and age.

  • If either party were previously married, they will be required to provide the date, city, and state of the divorce.

  • If either party was divorced within the last 30 days, we request a copy of your divorce decree.

  • All U.S. citizens are required to provide their Social Security number on the Affidavit of Application for a Marriage License. You do not need to present your Social Security card. Those applicants not issued a Social Security number by the United States will enter “none” in the appropriate box.

  • For non U.S. citizens, some foreign countries require a copy of the marriage license and/or an apostille to register a marriage. It is suggested that non U.S. citizens check with their local officials for special documents needed to ensure their marriage is recognized in their country.

  • Apostilles (Authentication of Signatures) may be required to register and finalize a marriage in a foreign country. Information regarding apostilles can be found under the Licensing Center section on the website of the Nevada Secretary of State.

It is important that you verify all information with your local local county marriage license bureau Clerk’s office before making a trip to purchase your marriage license.

Marriage ID Requirement in Nevada:

Both applicants must present a current government-issued photo ID. All documents will be in English or translated by a certified court translator.

  • Valid picture ID, such as a valid driver’s license or a valid identification card from the DMV.

  • A valid passport.

  • A Resident Alien card.

  • A Matricula Consular Card

  • Military ID Card issued by branch of U. S. Armed Forces

  • Military Dependent ID Card issued by branch of U. S. Armed Forces

Marriage Age Requirements: ✔ Get Copy Of Birth Certificate

  • If you are 16 or 17 years old, you must have one parent or legal guardian present.

  • A notarized written permission slip is also accepted. But it must be written in English and must state the name, birth date, age of the minor child, as well as the relationship of the person giving consent.

  • If you are under 16, marriage can only be authorized by court order when the request has been filed by either a parent or legal guardian.

Yes. Second cousins or first cousins may marry in the state of Nevada.

Common Law Marriages:

No.

Same Sex Marriages:

Yes. As of 2014, same-sex couples can legally marry in Nevada. The state of Nevada also recognizes same-sex marriages from other states and countries. You may apply for a marriage license even if you already have a domestic partnership or civil union. The application procedures are the same as for heterosexual couples.

Solemnize Marriages:

Any ordained or licensed clergymen who have obtained a certificate of permissions to perform marriages and justices of the peace can perform weddings in Nevada.

  • All ministers, religious officials, and Notaries Public who wish to perform marriage ceremonies in Nevada must obtain a Certificate of Authority to Solemnize Marriages from the County Clerk. You can check that the officiant has this certificate before proceeding with the marriage ceremony.

  • The state of Nevada has created a database of all marriage officiants in the state that you can access and search for free.

Expiration Date of Marriage License:

The marriage license is valid for 1 year from the date it is issued. It may be used anywhere within the State of Nevada.

Miscellaneous:

All marriage licenses obtained in Nevada are public record.
