Application:

The marriage license application must include:

  • Your social security numbers

  • Your address

  • Each applicants date of birth

  • Previous marriage information

    • Includes: the city, state, country of each marriage and the ending status of each, such as, by divorce or death.

  • Each applicants home and work telephone numbers are requested on application

  • The name of the person who is solemnizing the marriage (unless the applicants are requesting a civil service to be performed by a Superior Court official).

    • Religious celebrants and judges other than those of the D.C. Courts must be authorized by the Court and registered by the Marriage Bureau in order to perform legal marriages in the District of Columbia.

  • Marriage licenses are not issued by mail.

  • Once issued, a marriage license does not expire.

  • The Marriage license can be issued the same day you apply, if all required information is given; signed and completed application, officiant name, and payment.
