Getting married is an exciting time, but it can also be stressful and overwhelming. There are so many details to consider and decisions to make. You want to have all your questions answered without having to look in several places. We can help you cover one area: the marriage license! If you are going to get married in the Bronx, here is everything you need to know about getting your Bronx marriage license.
Some fast facts:
New York State requires all persons who intend to get married to apply for and obtain a marriage license at one of the borough offices of the City Clerk of New York.
Both parties must appear in person to apply for a Bronx marriage license; however, the application can be started online and ready for you when you arrive at the Clerk’s office.
The fee for a marriage license is $35 in the Bronx.
Bring with you valid, current Photo ID and proof of age.
For your photo ID, eight forms of identification are accepted. Be sure your identification is current and valid.
Driver’s License with photograph (from the United States of America or any of its territories)
Non-Driver Identification Card with photograph (from the United States of America or any of its territories)
Learner’s Permit with photograph (from the United States of America or any of its territories)
Active United States Military Identification Card
United States Certificate of Naturalization (good for 10 years after date of issue)
United States Permanent Resident Card
United States Employment Authorization Card
You do not have to be a New York state resident to obtain a license, but there is a twenty-four hour waiting period before your ceremony can be performed and a marriage license is valid for 60 days from date of issue. If you are traveling from outside the state, be sure to get your marriage license within the correct time frame. Also be sure to contact your local borough clerk’s office well in advance of the wedding to find out on what days and during what hours the clerk will be in the office.
For the application itself, you and your future spouse will need to provide the following information:
Country of birth
Date of birth
Name and country of birth of your parents
Social Security number
If you were previously married, the date of your divorce or the date of your spouse’s death must be provided. Bring a certified copy of the divorce decree or death certificate. All divorces, annulments, and dissolutions must be finalized before you apply for a new Bronx Marriage License.
Now you are fully prepared to obtain your Bronx marriage license. If only picking out flowers were this easy!
